Lake Overholser

After 3 years of endless drought, we here in central Oklahoma at least, were with desperately needed rain. It’s gotten so extreme, that our city reservoirs must release water to prevent flooding. After a tip from my Mother, Grace and I took a little photo date down to the Lake Overholser Dam to catch some photos and videos of the water release. A group of what I assume were good ol’ boys had knocked down most of the stop signs and all of the port-o-potties around Lake Overholser. Glad I am never that bored.

I’m just a sucker for these early morning lake pictures. At dawn, the shoreline is covered with Great Blue Herons catching their breakfast.

Admittedly this is pure bike porn, but I couldn’t pass up another pretty dawn ride picture. My morning commute remains my hands-down favorite part of my day.

The pelicans have been at Lake Overholser for a while now on their way south, but I finally got there at the right time of day for a close shot.

Actually, as I reported on twitter, it officially opened last Tuesday, but I haven’t had a chance to go by and take some pictures. However, the bridge looks great and the road surface is smooth as silk. I have to admit I’m going to have a little nostalgia for the old days of hopping over giant holes in the pavement. The old Route 66 Overholser Bridge has been closed for the last year which has made cycling around the lake very difficult. Thankfully, the restoration job on the bridge finished last week and I got to experience the new bridge myself this weekend!
