Authorities Seek Driver in Hit-and-Run Crash with Cyclist

State Troopers are seeking the driver of a vehicle who struck a cyclist just west of Cement, OK last night: The crash occurred at about 7:15 p.m. on U.S. 277, just west of Cement. Troopers said Josh Steven Henderson, 17, of Chickasha, was riding his bike west on the two-lane road when the vehicle, also traveling west, hit him and caused him to veer to the right. Oklahoma Freewheel 2012 Route Announced

Tonight in Tulsa, this year’s Oklahoma Freewheel route was announced and what an exciting route it looks like it will be. The route will start in the southwest quadrant of the state, and finish in the Northeast quadrant just across the border in Kansas. The ride will take place on June 9th through the 16th. Mileage pretty consistent but there are some long days, plus there are two bonus rides including a century ride and a ride to the top of Mount Scott. [Read More]

OKC Police Seek Driver in Hit-and-Run Involving Cyclist

News 9 is reporting that police are seeking the driver of a car who struck a cyclist on Monday morning near 31st and Military. The driver initially stopped and asked the cyclist, Bill Hartman, if he was hurt, but then when Mr. Hartman said, “Yes, I am hurt”, the driver said he was sorry but then fled the scene. The driver was middle-aged, wore glasses and had light brown hair. The vehicle is described as a small, gold colored beat-up car. [Read More]

The relationship between cyclists and the town of Jones, Oklahoma has traditionally been, at best, a rocky one and at worst, an outright hostile one. Quiet two lane roads and beautiful, hilly routes have attracted large number of cyclists to the area. OKC Bike Share Gets a Name, "Spokies"

Oklahoma City first announced the program back in August and additional details were announced yesterday at the Oklahoma City Council meeting. According to NewsOK, the program has been given an official name of “Spokies” and will consist of 95 bicycles (up from 90) placed at six stations in the downtown Oklahoma City area. [Read More]

Tulsa Cyclist Dies in Hit-and-Run Crash

The Tulsa World is reporting that a cyclist that was hit on Saturday in a hit-and-run crash has died: A bicyclist seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision Saturday has died. Mowery Funeral Home identified the victim as Bobby Richardson, 51, of Owasso. Oklahoman Reports on Jones Area Cycling

The Oklahoman has written a nice article about the increased levels of cycling in eastern Oklahoma County which includes some great quotes from Roger Welch, president of OBS and Mike Flenniken, president of the Oklahoma Bicycle Coalition: Between the forests and country homes of eastern Oklahoma County, the spandex and carbon fiber associated with cycling are an increasingly common sight. “Any evening after five 5 o’clock, you’re going to find some bikers coming through here,” Jones Mayor Ray Poland said.
